Advent, from the Latin adventus (“arrival” or “coming”), is the four-week season leading up to Christmas when we prepare for Christ’s coming—a time of waiting, reflection, and hope as God meets us in our fear and uncertainty with light and renewal.
This year, we’re focusing on “What Do You Fear? Insisting on Hope this Advent.” Luke’s Gospel begins “In the time of Herod…,” reminding us that Jesus was born into a world marked by fear—yet the angels’ refrain was clear: “Do not be afraid.” Like Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, and the magi, we’re invited to acknowledge our fears while moving toward courage, trust, and hope.
As we light candles and prepare our hearts, we remember that God still breaks into fearful places with good news stronger than fear. Join us the next four Sundays (11/30, 12/7, 12/14, 12/21) as we insist on hope together.
“It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”
