Welcome to One Night.

One Night is an intimate evening dinner, worship and sharing experience (and experiment), and we’re so glad you’re here for it. Honestly, we couldn’t think of a better way to conclude our conversation around building the Beloved Community, then by putting into practice being the Beloved Community.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

— John 13:34-35

Song Lyrics.

  • They say this mountain can't be moved

They say these chains will never break

But they don't know You like we do

There is power in Your name

We've heard that there is no way through

We've heard the tide will never change

They haven't seen what You can do

There is power in Your name

So much power in Your name

    Move the unmovable

    Break the unbreakable

    God we believe

    God we believe for it

    From the impossible

    We'll see a miracle

    God we believe

    God we believe for it

We know that hope is never lost (oh)

For there is still an empty grave

God we believe no matter what

There is power in Your name

So much power in Your name

    Move the unmovable

    Break the unbreakable

    God we believe

    God we believe for it

    From the impossible

    We'll see a miracle

    God we believe

God we believe for it (hey)

    You are the way

When there seems to be no way

    We trust in You

God You have the final say, yeah

    You are the way

When there seems to be no way (yes You are)

    We trust in You

God You have the final say

    (You are the final say)

    Move the unmovable

    Break the unbreakable

    God we believe

    God we believe for it

    From the impossible

    We'll see a miracle

    God we believe

    God we believe for it

    God we believe

    God we believe for it

    I love You Lord

Oh Your mercy never fails me

With every breath that I am able

I will sing of the goodness of God

You have led me through the fire

    Your promise still stands

    Great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness

    Great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness

    I'm still in Your hands

    This is my confidence

    You've never failed me yet

    Never failed me yet

    Oh, oh-oh

And I believe I'll see You do it again

You made a way, where there was no way

And I believe I'll see You do it again

I've seen You move, You move the mountains

And I believe I'll see You do it again

You made a way, where there was no way

And I believe I'll see You do it again

“42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

— Acts 2:42-47

Reflect & Share.

  1. Take a moment to list/name/summarize as many of the key “building blocks” to building the Beloved Community that were explored over the past several months from our conversation around Building the Beloved Community. What sermons, topics, themes, passages, concepts or aspects of the Beloved Community stood out or resonated most with you and why?

  2. While we’ve concluded our Building the Beloved Community sermon series, the truth is, building the Beloved Community is an ongoing and never ending journey and process. In what ways do you think God is inviting you personally to actively participate in the building of the Beloved Community here at Common Good Church in this next season? Are there certain things that God is calling you to do/not do or learn/unlearn?

  3. As a community member of Common Good Church, what do you yourself want, need or desire from your beloved community? In other words, how can this beloved community best serve you and/or bless you in this season?

  4. What are some ways in which Common Good can collectively and proactively work together to be intentional about building a more loving, inclusive, diverse, just, equitable, grace-filled and Jesus-centered community in which all people and all persons can belong, flourish and learn to live into their God-given purpose and potential?
